eBay provide some great geo-targeting features on their text links and creatives. But some of their tools and widgets don’t carry this function, such as the Custom Banner, RSS Feeds and the API. While it is something which eBay are looking at developing a solution for, this obviously takes time.
R.O.EYE were set the task of looking into providing a solution to allow publishers to geo-target these tools, and we are pleased to be able to now give eBay publisher an easy way of geo-targeting the Custom Banner.
Check out the development page here http://geo.cgmlab.co.uk/ebay/custombanner.html for instructions on how to use it in your site (it’s so easy your mum could do it).
There is a sample of it working here, http://geo.cgmlab.co.uk/custombanner/sample.html, check out the source code to see it in action!
This is a continual project, and as such will be updated to include new features and the ability to geo-target new tools. There’s currently an XML feed in beta, which you can see here, which allows you to dynamically pull in the correct tool ID’s for the Custom Banner and API. If you’re able to parse and use XML on your site it’s definitely worth taking a look at.
We’d also appreciate any feedback you have on this, so please get in touch using the address on the development page.
