Affiliates and what they do
Defining exactly what an affiliate is has always been a subjective exercise as they vary so much in shape, size and sector.
We view an affiliate as an entity which either possesses or has the intellectual property to drive online traffic.
This definition spans a huge array of businesses, ranging from small affiliates with niche content sites to Super-affiliates who have the knowledge to deliver significant levels of traffic within a product sector.
There is also a wide spread in the size of affiliate business. Whist most affiliate sites are run by ‘hobbyists’ or self employed affiliates working on their own or in small teams, some affiliate organisations have grown to become multi-national businesses.
Generally speaking, affiliates fall into the following categories:
- Search Engine Optimisation
- Search pay-per-click
- Content sites
- Comparison
- Lead generation
- Co-registration
- Reward and Incentive
- Forums and blogs
